Sara Chandler. Artist.
My childhood was spent in Wiltshire, out on the Salisbury Plain. After gaining my degree I spent a happy 40 years as an art educator.
In 2017, as vice principal of a large comprehensive, I left the rhythm of the classroom for a quieter journey: a journey to rediscover a more personal, creative path. This is a constant challenge.
Drawing remains important to my practice and reminds me that seeing is very different to looking. I regularly work outside in the landscape and belong to a life drawing group.
The development of my observations happens in the studio where I experiment with colour relationships to produce semi-abstract images. I work mostly in oil-based media for my paintings and a variety of graphic media for my larger drawings.
